Cartier Polo | Lana Marks Closes Worth Avenue Store, Seeks New Location
After 10 years operating her namesake luxury handbag and accessory boutique, island designer Lana Marks has vacated her Worth Avenue flagship store.
The merchandise and signage were removed 10 days ago.
“The store lease is up as of this month and my company is negotiating a lease in a new location,” Marks said in an e-mail from Asia, where she is traveling.
While she searches for a new island retail space, Marks said, she is operating her business from her 125 Worth Ave. corporate office-showroom. A handwritten sign on the door of the emptied 238 Worth Ave. store directs Marks’ customers to call 655-3155 for an appointment.
Marks continues to operate two boutiques in the United States, in Beverly Hills, Calif., and New York City. Her exotic skin handbags are carried by retailers in Las Vegas, London and Dubai.
“We were surprised about Mrs. Marks’ move and are sorry to see an empty storefront on the Avenue,” said Inez Heery, manager of the Betteridge at Greenleaf & Crosby jewelry store next to the former Marks boutique. “Hopefully, the space will have a tenant by the time the season kicks in.”
“We wish her well,” said Sherry Frankel, president of the Worth Avenue merchants association.
Calls to Love Realty’s Burt Handelsman, Marks’ former landlord, about the status of the storefront were not returned.
