Guards Polo | Prince Harry’s Polo Injury Same As Animal Cruelty?
Pictures of Prince Harry playing polo on top of a horse with a clear injury to it’s flank has several people upset. The photos suggest that it was Prince Harry who inflicted the injury to the horse in the midst of a polo game.
Yahoo! News states that Prince Harry has now been accused of animal cruelty because of the injury on the horse. The horse was injured during a polo match at the “Guards Polo Club in Windsor Great Park in July, but pictures of the incident have just emerged.” Several witnesses have come forward to say that despite the blood injury to the horse, Prince Harry continued using it in the polo game.
Post Chronicle said that the Hurlingham Polo Association is investigating the incident following the surfacing of the photos. The veterinary who tended to the horse after the the polo match said that the wound was caused by a collision and not by Prince Harry’s spurs.
Mail Online reports that Animal Rights activists are now buying that explanation. Animal Aid’s director, Andrew Tyler, said: “It was a heartless and utterly selfish thing to do. Polo is a very rough activity that causes stress and injuries to horses. The use of spurs in such a fast-moving event is a vicious indulgence.
“Spurs are unnecessary for a competent rider and should not be used to punish a horse for the rider’s failure to gain advantage. Prince Harry comes from a background of hunting and shooting which is at odds with the vast majority of the British public.”
A spokesman for St. James’ Palace said that once Prince Harry realized his horse had suffered a bloody injury, the game was stopped and the horse was treated then allowed back into the polo game. The horse is said to be completely fine now.
Unfortunately, there is no absolute way to tell what actually happened. Even though the photos are discriminating to Prince Harry, they are still just photos which don’t show the entire polo match or how the horse obtained it’s injury. Unless a full video of the polo game emerges, there will continue to be a lot of speculation over whether or not Prince Harry is the one who caused the injury and if he is guilty of animal cruelty.
